Public Health Offers FREE Prenatal Education

Submitted by Caitlyn Hanley, Health Promoter, Reproductive Health, Health Promotion Department, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health offers a free Prenatal Education Series for parents-to-be.  The series consists of an e-learning program, The Gift of Motherhood, and a set of 3 in-person sessions covering preparation for parenting, breastfeeding, labour and birth.  The e-learning program allows parents to learn in the comfort of their own home and the in-person sessions include demonstrations, hands-on skills practice, and time for questions.

Mothers and their support person are encouraged to start prenatal education as early in their pregnancy as possible. First-time parents are encouraged to take both the e-learning program and the in-person sessions.

Sessions are offered in partnership with the Ontario Early Years Centres, the Prince Edward Family Health Team, and Quinte Health Care.  Please CLICK HERE for the 2016 schedule to post in public areas, newsletters, etc.

For more information or to register visit the PUBLIC HEALTH WEBSITE or call 613-966-5500, or toll free at 1-800-267-2803, ext. 675.

NOTE:  Our next two blogs will outline the prenatal and postnatal services offered at the Community Wellbeing Centre in Tyendinaga and the Metis Nation of Ontario – Healing and Wellness Branch in Bancroft.
