Joe Roberts is an inspiration to us all! His story is about finding the inner strength to change the direction of his life after living as a skid row addict under Vancouver’s Georgia Street viaduct. Years later, Joe is now highly successful in business and as a motivational speaker.
Speaking to more than 250 service providers and community members at the Exploring Mental Health and Addictions event and Community Service Expo 2015 at Maranatha on May 25th held significance for Joe because he spent his recovery in Belleville and stayed on to study business at Loyalist College. In fact, one of his counsellors and mentors happened to be in the audience! Joe expressed his appreciation to service providers in Belleville who helped him and continue to support youth who are homeless and suffering from addiction.
Those of you who were unable to attend his presentation – as well as those who did – may wish to read his book, “7 Secrets to Profit from Adversity” in which Joe explains how to profit from hard times.
We should be hearing news of Joe in May 2016, when he plans to push a shopping cart across Canada to raise awareness and dollars to end youth homelessness. For details, visit Push for Change.
The format of combining the Community Service Expo 2015 with the addictions and mental health workshops received glowing responses from participants. The Expo included exhibits from 35 organizations across Hastings-Prince Edward. The object of the Expo was to improve information and access to services, and encourage networking among service providers. Please CLICK HERE for a list of exhibitors and websites.
