Media Release – Increased Access to the Healthy Smiles Ontario Program

Healthy Smiles Ontario

The Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit is pleased to announce an expansion to the Healthy Smiles Ontario eligibility criteria, effective April 1, 2014. The change will allow more children – approximately 70,000 more children across Ontario – access to the Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program. HSO is a program for Ontario children 17 and under who do not have access to any form of dental coverage. Children of families meeting the eligibility criteria receive regular dental services at no cost to the family. Families are enrolled through the Health Unit.

Beginning April 1, 2014, children of households with an Adjusted Family Net Income of $21,500 or below per year will be eligible for enrolment into HSO. This is an increase from the previous $20,000 per year cut-off. New to the eligibility criteria is an increase of $1,500 per child in addition to the net income of $21,500. The Health Unit is optimistic about these changes and being able to offer dental care to more children in our counties. For more information about the changes to HSO or more programs and services, call the Health Unit at 613-966-5500, toll-free 1-800-267-2803 or TTY at 613-966-3036 Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Healthy Smiles are Possible.
