A hearty thank you goes out to the 31 individuals from HPE who took time away from their busy schedules to attend the Parent Engagement Symposium in Kingston on January 14th. HPE Children and Youth Services Network representatives, along with KFL&A Children and Youth Services Steering Committee members, responded knowledgeably and enthusiastically to the questions and activities that were offered throughout the day by co-facilitators Theresa Dostaler and Kelly Mathieson
An identical session held in Frankville on January 15th, and comprised of representatives from Every Kid in our Communities of Leeds & Grenville and the Lanark County Planning Council for Children, Youth and Families, went equally as well. Common themes around “parent engagement” emerged from both symposiums.
As a next step, Bianca Sclippa-Barrett (Belleville and Quinte West Community Health Centre), Danita Norton (Community Living Prince Edward), Donalda Simmons (Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board) and Melanie Dunlop (Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board) have volunteered to represent the CYSN at a follow-up session on January 28th. Again with the skilled facilitation of Theresa Dostaler, Bianca, Danita, Donalda and Melanie will work with four representatives from each of the KFL&A, Leeds-Grenville and Lanark planning tables, along with the four Coordinators/Planners, to help finalize a shared understanding/common definition of “parent engagement” across the Southeast Region.
